Floods are also a serious problem in Poland. Two of the worst floods happened in 1934 and in 1997. In Jully 1934, 55 people died after the River Dunajec burst its banks during heavy rain.
The floods covered 1260 km and destroyed 22000 buildings,
167 km of roads and 78 bridges. Sixty three years later intensive rainfall in south west Poland
caused flooding in the Odra and Vistula river basins.
54 people were killed, 2592 towns and villages were flooded, and 1370 km of roads were destroyed as well as 4800 bridges.
